Distributor Price List
March 4, 2020
Dear Valued Customer:
As the 1st Quarter of 2020 is coming to an end, increases have been announced for the 2nd Quarter of 2020 for both Plastic and Steel Packaging.
Original estimates showed Polyethylene prices would remain unchanged for January 2020. However, a recently published mid-cycle update from CDI is calling for a $0.04 per pound increase. All HDPE resin producers have announced the $0.04 per pound resin increase will now become effective March 2, 2020. This increase applies to both Open Head and Tight Head Plastic Pails, Pail Covers, Bottles, Jars, Tubs, Pail Liners and Closures.
Also, Steel mill market pricing has risen steadily over the prior quarter. The mills have successfully aligned production with demand to give them the ability to raise prices. The CRC had steadily declined over the last two years to multi-year lows and the mills have sought to increase pricing to get their business models back to levels sustainable to produce product. A 2.95% price increase has been announced for 28, 26- and 24-Gauges Steel Pails and Covers that will be effective April 6, 2020. The increase will not affect 29-gauge Steel Pails, 29-gauge Lug Covers, 5-gallon Steel Pail Seconds, Paint Cans, Screw Top Cans, Open Top Cans, nor Tins/Ink Cans.
As Northern Container keeps additional inventory on our floor, this allows us time to pass on each increase as they occur. Northern Container's increase for both Plastic and Steel Containers will become effective for all shipments on or after April 15, 2020. Updated Price Lists will be sent out to all customers.
We will continue to monitor the resin market and will be proactive in our approach to inform you as the market changes. We thank you for your continued business and understanding. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
